Rain Rain Go Away!

Over the past six weeks, South East Queensland has seen huge rainfall. Summer is the "wet season" for us so we generally expect this! Even though Brisbane itself has not flooded again this year, the rainfall in the Wamuran region where we have Pineapple, Strawberry and Honey Gold farms, has had the same amount of rainfall as last year!

This has caused the local creeks and rivers to flood, blocking many roads and making it hard to get to work. Luckily because the flooding is so localised, the water quickly recedes and it's back to business as usual.

Mini Honey Gold Mangoes (Nubbins)

Piñata Farms have family farmers who grow Piñata Honey Gold Mangoes for us all the way down the Queensland and New South Wales Coast, and even in Mildura, Victoria. Having such a spread of growers in diverse reasons is why Honey Gold's are available from November - April (with a small gap in production during the month of March). One of the challenges of growing mangoes in regions such as Wamuran, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Mildura is that the cooler climate can affect the growth cycle of the mangoes.

A Few Words from the Pine Farm Up North..

Up here in Mareeba we have had a pretty big few weeks! We had a lot of backpackers join the picking and packing teams. One thing I have to say is that I do admire these young people that decide to work around other countries so they can travel. For a lot of the backpackers, coming from jobs ranging from the professional end of the spectrum to farmers themselves, a large majority of them jump right in and exhaust themselves. It doesn't take long for them to look at our base staff with a certain amount of respect.
